Investment Readiness for Kandanga Farm Store
Grant Amount: $33,000
Region: Queensland
Delivered by: Sefa
Year funded: 2023
Project status: Complete
The Challenge
There is a need to invest in bridging the knowledge and skill gap for regenerative innovators and businesses to prepare them for investment opportunities. However, these businesses require incubator and investment readiness programs specifically tailored to regenerative approaches, avoiding the outdated focus on growth and expansion at the expense of people and the planet.
The Innovation
The Kandanga Farm Store, founded by Tim and Amber Scott, is Australia's only dedicated regenerative and organic farming rural supplies store. Providing farm inputs and guidance such as infrastructure, seed, animal health and irrigation as well as consulting services and regular events and workshops on everything from farm to fork, the aim is to assist farmers to grow nutrient-dense, clean food where production and ecology advance together, profitably.
The Kandanga Farm Store also houses a true provenance cafe where farmer customers become farmer suppliers, completing the circle and encouraging consumers to engage with the food system. By creating a profitable and community enhancing business model, the Kandanga Farm Store leads the way for the future of farming and rural retail that does not rely on cyclical and synthetic inputs.
Sustainable Table funded Kandanga Farm Store to undertake a pilot investment readiness program, delivered by Sefa. This program supported Amber and Scott to not only prepare them for funding but also to get clarity around the business’ purpose and how it can move forward with confidence.
Why did Sustainable Table fund this project?
We could immediately see that Tim and Amber were doing something special at Kandanga Farm Store. Not only is their business unique but their goal is to make the model replicable and scalable. This will ultimately lead to many more of these farm stores filling a critical gap and servicing the growth of the regenerative farming sector.
We recognised Kandanga Farm Store needed support to evaluate the different avenues for growth and get them investment ready for the next stage of solidifying and scaling their business.
