Educational Workshops and Farm Visits

Central Queensland Alliance is growing regenerative farming knowledge and capacity.

Grant Amount: $15,000

Region: Queensland

Delivered by: Central Queensland Landscape Alliance

Year funded: 2022

Project status: In progress

The Challenge

If we are to transform Australian farming, farmers must have opportunities to learn about regenerative farming practices. Access to education and collaborative spaces is vital, empowering farmers with the knowledge and skills needed to implement regenerative methods. By fostering a community where experiences are shared and innovations celebrated, we can cultivate a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

The Innovation

The Central Queensland Landscape Alliance (CQLA) is a farmer-initiated and led peer-learning network working. They are building a culture of learning, trust, sharing and experimenting that will support farmers in the region to transform agricultural practices from conventional to regenerative.

Sustainable Table has funded CQLA to further engage with their farming and human health communities by hosting two workshops in 2023 and a series of farm visits.

The project’s key objectives are:

  • Strategic direction and improved governance of CQLA.
  • Education on regenerative agriculture practices to be implemented within businesses. Awareness of CQLA to help support landholders take up regenerative practices on their properties and in their lives. CQLA organises three events each year to connect and learn and introduce guest speakers to enrich members’ knowledge and skills and broaden horizons.
  • Creating a social support system to build healthy and diverse communities.

Why did Sustainable Table fund this project?

The evidence is clear that the most effective method for enabling regenerative farming practice change is through peer to peer farmer led networks and CQLA are doing exactly that in a collaborative, considered and inclusive fashion. This funding will help them to lay strong foundations for large and sustained impact across farming communities in the Central Queensland region which stretches from Rockhampton to far west of Longreach.
